Students Involved with Technology Conference
The Students Involved with Technology Conference is an annual conference for 3rd through 12th grade students, being hosted at Heartland Community College. So what makes the SIT Conference stand out? It is also completely presented by 3rd-12th grade students. While adult volunteers from local schools and the community help the day run smoothly, all presentations are prepared and presented by the students!
This year, YBMC sent six student attendees and two staff volunteers to assist with SIT. While there, students attended seminars on a wide range of subjects, including drones, 3D printing, rockets, green screen tech, animation, virtual reality, and more.
On Friday, February 9, community colleges, military personnel, local unions, and various McLean County businesses will assemble at YouthBuild McLean County for its second annual college & career fair.
“The Next Step: Inspiration Fair” offers students an opportunity to learn more about career and higher education opportunities they may be interested in, while providing a wide assortment of path options. Professionals can directly respond to student questions regarding the joys and challenges of their career choices, and provide advice on required training and networking for their industry.
This free event is open to the general public, and any business interested in participating is encouraged to contact YBMC by 2/2/18.
This Monday, January 15, 2018 YouthBuild McLean County students and staff will spend the day completing service projects within the community to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collectively, 150 hours will be spent on activities such as painting a mural, creating inspirational cards, reading Martin Luther King Jr’s story to children, making MLK-themed art, and various construction and beautification projects whose beneficiaries include Pet Central Helps, YWCA, Salvation Army, and Bromenn Hospice. “Instead of taking a day off for the holiday, our students and staff take the day on to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy”, said Tracey Polson, Executive Director. “Service is a great way for our students to give back to the community and make a positive impact. This is one of our favorite days of the year because we can see the big impact of helping our neighbors when we all come together.”
